Good Vision In The Classroom

It's hard to believe that summer's just about over. Kids across the country are preparing for the beginning of the school year, with brand new bags, new books and a whole lot of anticipation. And if you haven't already done it, it's also a great time to bring your son or daughter in to the eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam. One of the most crucial things your child needs in order to succeed in school is proper vision. When children grow, some of their many developmental stages affect their eyesight. An eye exam helps to identify such changes.

As you might have guessed, a lot of progress at school is accomplished visually. Despite the well-known link between eyesight and learning, a lot of people don't seem to be aware of how common vision problems are, and don't get their child's eyes examined often enough. As your kid's vision may change frequently, regular eye care is crucial to their classroom success and self esteem.

Children possess an astounding ability to work with a vision problem. It is extra important to monitor the indicators of vision problems as your child progresses through school.

Inadequate eyesight and increasing demands on the eyes, such as small type in textbooks may impact his or her academic growth. Recently developed educational technology, like interactive whiteboards, can also potentially exaggerate previously hidden vision problems. If a child doesn't have good enough vision, it isn't just their academic life that suffers. It's mentally and emotionally taxing also.

If your son or daughter has already been fitted for glasses, the start of the school year is a great time to see if their current frames are meeting their needs at school. The more a child is content with his or her glasses, the more they'll be worn!

Find a good time to stop by to see us as part of your back-to-school routine. We want to help our young patients commence the new school year with great vision.
